Toronto, November 30, 2020 – It is with great pleasure that ACÉPO announces that François Laperle will join its team as Director of Labour Relations and Organizational Development, as of April 1, 2021. Current Director of Labour Relations, Jennifer Lamarche Schmalz, will remain at ACÉPO to assist the new director and ensure a smooth transition.
François Laperle has worked for over 25 years in managerial roles and in the field of human resource management. He joined the education sector in 2007 and, seven years later, was appointed Director of Human Resources for the Conseil des écoles publiques de l’Est de l’Ontario, where he skillfully built an HR Department focused on balancing the needs of the school board and its staff. In addition, he has participated in central bargaining since 2014. François Laperle holds of a Master’s degree in HR, and still furthers his studies in the fields of occupational health and safety, staff well-being and diversity and inclusion.
“François Laperle brings to ACÉPO a wide range of knowledge, experience and expertise acquired largely in the education sector. Thanks to his exceptional leadership, he will be able to lead the role of Director of Labour Relations and Organizational Development in new and exciting directions, ” Denis M. Chartrand, ACÉPO Chair.
ACÉPO wants to express its gratitude to Jennifer Lamarche Schmalz for the leadership she demonstrated during her years as Director of Labour Relations. Jennifer Lamarche Schmalz has guided the association since the completion of its first round of negotiations in 2015. She was able to highlight and vehemently defend the needs of French-language public school boards, as well as protect and draw attention to the French-language public education system in Ontario. She has built a solid foundation for ACÉPO’s labour relations.
After working for thirty years for the well-being of students of Ontario’s French-language public schools, including seven years spent as Superintendent of Education at the Conseil scolaire Viamonde and five spent at ACÉPO, Jennifer Lamarche Schmalz has decided to step back. She is leaving her role of director, but will continue to provide ACÉPO with her expertise by joining the labour relations support team, which will ensure a smooth transition and continuity for the association.
